Pornhub has reopened its content to UK adults using Apple’s new device-based age verification system, three months after blocking new UK users. The move aims to improve security and comply with UK regulations.
Pornhub has resumed allowing UK adults to access its content, utilizing Apple’s new device-based age verification system, after a three-month suspension of new user access in the UK.
On May 5, 2026, Aylo, the parent company of Pornhub, announced that UK users on iOS devices and iPads can now verify their age through Apple’s new device-based system and access adult content. This system, introduced with Apple’s iOS 26.4 update, is claimed to be the first of its kind, offering a more secure method for age verification directly on devices.
Previously, in July 2025, the UK implemented new child safety provisions requiring adults to prove they are not minors before viewing adult content, which led Pornhub to block new users in February 2026 who had not completed age verification. The company had argued that device-based verification is more secure than third-party or web-based methods.
According to Pornhub, Apple’s safety settings for users under 18 are among the strongest protections available to prevent minors from accessing age-inappropriate content, and the company has long advocated for device-based verification solutions. The move affects only UK users on iOS devices, not MacBooks, which use a different operating system.
Why It Matters
This development highlights a shift toward more secure, device-based age verification methods in online adult content regulation, potentially setting a precedent for other platforms and jurisdictions. It also addresses ongoing concerns about minors accessing adult content and the effectiveness of verification methods.
For consumers, this means easier and potentially more secure access to adult content in the UK, while regulators see a step toward better safeguarding minors online. However, it remains to be seen how widely such systems will be adopted across different platforms and regions.

Background
In July 2025, the UK introduced new legislation requiring adult content providers to verify the age of users using ID, face scans, or other methods. As a result, Pornhub suspended access for new UK users in February 2026, citing the difficulty of complying with these laws. The company has since been advocating for device-based verification as a more secure alternative.
Apple’s release of iOS 26.4 in April 2026 included the rollout of its device-based age verification system, which companies like Pornhub now utilize to meet legal requirements while aiming to enhance user privacy and security. The move aligns with broader efforts in the US and elsewhere to improve online safety measures for minors.
“We believe that device-based age verification offers the strongest and hardest-to-circumvent protections for minors, and we are pleased to restore access for UK users on iOS devices.”

What Remains Unclear
It is still unclear how widely other platforms will adopt device-based age verification systems, or whether this approach will be effective in preventing minors from accessing adult content across different jurisdictions. The long-term impact on online safety and regulation enforcement remains to be seen.
